Problem:
<\/strong>Timor Leste is the poorest country in Southeast Asia and one of the poorest in the world. During the 1999 conflict in Timor Leste much of the existing infrastructure was destroyed, including the destruction of schools 80%. Half of the population is under 18 years of age and a third of its inhabitants are under 8 years of age. A 70% of Timorese children between the ages of 3 and 5 are ineligible for their right to education and this has a permanent impact on their ability to develop to their full potential. This particularly affects girls.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

One of the most pressing needs in Timor-Leste today is teacher training. It has been estimated that more than 23% of teachers do not have a teaching qualification, 61% have a partial qualification, and only 11% have a tertiary qualification in education.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Project:
<\/strong>The construction of a Higher Teacher Training Institute<\/strong>, especially Early Childhood Education and a school with Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education<\/strong>, where teachers in training can put into practice what they have learned. This \u201cNaroman Esperansa\u201d project is developed in the shared mission of two congregations: Slaves of the Eucharist and the Mother of God and the Missionary Daughters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.<\/p>\n
